For Singaporeans looking for a weekend adventure that’s easy on the wallet, Johor Bahru’s pasar malams (night markets) are a goldmine. These vibrant local markets offer an authentic taste of JB life, far beyond the malls and chain restaurants most visitors flock to.

Start your week with KSL Pasar Malam on Mondays, right outside KSL City Mall.

It’s a bustling street lined with food stalls, snacks, fashion and gadgets, perfect for an early evening feast after crossing the Causeway. Kampung Melayu Majidee Pasar Malam is another Monday favourite, running round the clock with traditional Malay dishes, kuih, grilled meats and fresh produce.

Johor Jaya Night Market transforms Jalan Dedap into a lively food street packed with satay, noodles, and lok lok — ideal for dinner on the go.

For sheer size and variety, Taman Ungku Tun Aminah (TUTA) Night Market on Saturdays is unbeatable. And on Sundays, Permas Jaya Night Market offers a more relaxed, spacious shopping and eating experience.

With prices far lower than Singapore, these JB night markets are perfect for foodies, bargain hunters and weekend explorers. Discover flavours, deals and experiences that haven’t been “Singaporeanised” yet.

Here are 5 popular pasar malam / night markets in JB with their opening times and what makes each special. (Bear in mind times may shift, so always double-check locally.)

1. KSL Pasar Malam / Night Market @ Jalan Seladang

  • When: Every Monday, 5:00 pm onwards (until late)

  • Where: In front of KSL City Mall, along Jalan Seladang toward Grand Paragon Hotel

  • Why it’s special: It’s one of the classic JB nighttime bazaars that long-timers know. You’ll find a long stretch of food, snacks, local delicacies, clothes, and gadgets. Roads are often closed off for stalls. Great for a Monday evening food hunt after crossing.

2. Pasar Malam Kampung Melayu Majidee

  • When: Mondays

  • Where: Kampung Melayu Majidee area, JB

  • Why it’s special: It’s a go-to local market for traditional street food, snacks, freshly cooked grub, and local produce. Because it runs 24 hours on Mondays, you can hit it late and still get good eats.

3. Johor Jaya Night Market (Food Street)

  • When: Starts before 5:00 pm, stalls come out early; active in the evening

  • Where: Along Jalan Dedap (between Dedap 13 and Dedap 23), Johor Jaya

  • Why it’s special: It’s one of JB’s livelier night food streets — lots of variety (lok lok, satay, grilled items, noodles). It’s more food street than typical pasar malam, so more seating and walk-along style.

4. Taman Ungku Tun Aminah (TUTA) Night Market

  • When: Saturdays, starting ~4:30 pm onward

  • Where: Jalan Perkasa 5, Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, Skudai area

  • Why it’s special: Often considered one of the largest pasar malam in JB. It features not just food but fresh produce, apparel, household goods. Because of its scale, there’s more variety and you can spend hours browsing.

5. Permas Sunday Night Market (Permas Jaya)

  • When: Sundays, 5:00 pm to ~9:00 pm

  • Where: Jalan Permas 11, Bandar Baru Permas Jaya

  • Why it’s special: Less crowded than some of the main night markets, offering a more relaxed stroll. Good mix of food and goods. Because it’s more spacious and quieter, you can enjoy browsing without the crush.
